Regulations of Interlibrary Loans

Regulations for Interlibrary Loans of the Lazarski University Library (hereinafter: the University Library, BU)

Interlibrary loans are made on a reciprocal basis between the Lazarski University Library and national libraries.

Interlibrary loan of collections from a national library to the University Library

  1. The right to use the Interlibrary Loan service is available to BU users with a library card or electronic student ID. Orders should be made using the electronic order form or in person at the Library.
  2. Interlibrary Loans include requests for:
    1. for books, with the stipulation that they cannot be available at BU or Warsaw libraries, subject to p. 8.
    2. for making a copy of a document, with the stipulation that the User is obliged to cover the cost of the service, based on the quote of the library making the copy.
  3. At one time, the User may place an order for 3 publications.
  4. Book orders are fulfilled by the University Library borrowing a copy from the book collection of another library. The service is free of charge. The library covers the cost of delivery from another library, if this service is not provided free of charge, and return of the book.
  5. Books are brought in for a period determined by the borrowing library. The University Library notifies the User of the receipt of the ordered books and the date by which they will be at the disposal of the BU.
  6. The imported books are made available only on the spot, unless the rules of the lending library allow home lending.
  7. The order may not be fulfilled for reasons beyond the control of the University Library.
  8. The primary form of transportation of interlibrary loan books is by regular mail. In exceptional cases, the Library uses other ways to pick up or return a book, including within Warsaw.
  9. Failure to comply with the Interlibrary Loan Regulations may result in periodic or permanent suspension of the right to use this service.

Loaning a collection from a foreign library to the University Library

  1. The interlibrary loan service brings books from foreign libraries in case of lack of books in Polish libraries under the general conditions as above.
  2. Lazarski University Library has joined The IFLA Voucher Scheme. This program allows lending libraries to settle payments for international loans in IFLA vouchers. The cost of borrowing is determined by the lending library. The estimated cost for borrowing 1 book or duplicate is 1-2 vouchers. The price of 1 full voucher is 8 euros, 1 half voucher is 4 euros. The library has IFLA vouchers. The user may be charged for the purchase of additional vouchers.
  3. Foreign loans are made only from libraries operating in The IFLA Voucher Scheme.

Lending the University Library's collection to another library

  1. The University Library lends books subject to borrowing and, in justified cases, also books for use on site. The loan period is 90 days and is not subject to extension. The date of return is the date of mailing.
  2. The provisions of the Regulations of the University Library regarding fees for books not returned on time apply to interlibrary loans accordingly.
  3. The University Library does not lend:
    • magazines,
    • multimedia collections,
    • dissertations.
  4. The University Library reserves the right to refuse an order if the ordered books are available in a library located in the same locality as the ordering library. This applies especially to orders placed by libraries in Warsaw. The refusal shall indicate the location of the copy.
  5. Book orders are placed by completing the online ordering procedure in the catalog.
  6. To execute the order, the library creates its own account in the University Library according to the instructions for remote account creation, and then activates it. BU sends to the librarian opening the account the data for verification and signature on the printout returned with the first book borrowed.
  7. The University Library processes the order within 48 hours (or on the first post-holiday day for orders placed on Fridays, weekends and holidays) and promptly sends it by regular mail at its own expense to the ordering library.
  8. The ordering library bears full responsibility for the borrowed books. This library returns the books by mail at its own expense. The library is obliged to comply with the rules and regulations of the University Library regarding loans.
  9. The University Library carries out the orders of libraries to make a secondary document (scans in pdf format) with respect for copyright. The cost of performing this service is determined by the Lazarski University Library Fee List. To place an order, send a completed Scanning Order to interlibrary@lazarski.edu.pl. As a general rule, the library refuses scans of more than 300 pages. The service is implemented after confirmation of acceptance of the cost of its implementation.
  10. Payment for the service is made on the basis of a VAT invoice issued by Lazarski University.
  11. Scans of library materials are sent only by e-mail.
  12. The Regulations enter into force on the date of publication.
