We will be discussing whether the vision of the American president meets the expectations of American companies and whether it will be approved by American consumers. With such a topic, it will be difficult to refrain from emotional reactions, but during the debate all points of view will be allowed, provided that we present appropriate arguments to support them.

The media report spectacular declines in world stock indices in response to the decisions of the US government. But the very next day the situation changes, and we learn about the gigantic profits of some companies and entrepreneurs. Are we observing a far-reaching and planned policy of the US government, or are these random and ill-considered decisions of a controversial leader, without a deeper analysis of cause and effect, which may just as well reverse after a while?

We are bombarded with media information and conflicting assessments of economic experts and political commentators; it is difficult to see a common understanding. We therefore invite you to a debate on this topic, which probably affect us all. Who has a plan? Is it a good plan? Will the situation return to the norm? And if not, what is the new norm? What will be the consequences for the USA and the world? Are we observing a paradigm shift in world trade? Is this the end of globalization? Is America still a superpower that can impose its conditions on the entire world? Is this the last battle in desperation to maintain global hegemony in the face of growing competition from China?

We will be trying to answer these and other questions during the student debate on May 25 at 8:30 a.m. in Auditorium 38.
