Economics of sustainable development

The specialisation in the field of study Economics

The purpose of the specialization is to introduce students to the world's ongoing green economic transformation based on innovation, the European Green Deal Strategy, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and non-financial reporting (ESG) requirements.

In response to the current climate situation and economic crisis, we are introducing a new specialization "Economics of Sustainable Development."

Under the new EU budget perspective - Poland will receive some €139 billion in grants and €34 billion in loans, of which at least one-third will have to be allocated to the implementation of the European Green Deal, i.e. projects that support sustainable and pro-climate development and support the recovery of the economy after the COVID-19 pandemic. This means revolutionary changes in the economy in both the private and public sectors.

Programme description

The green transition is inevitable and will have an increasing impact on the labor market. In the last decade, about 4 million green jobs have been created in Europe. In the next few years, we will experience rapid growth in demand for, among others: specialists in implementing pro-climate innovation, eco-financiers, public program managers, change managers and ESG officers. In connection with the implementation of the EU Directive on Corporate Sustainability Reporting, from 2024 more than 3,500 companies in Poland will be subject to non-financial reporting in the areas of environmental protection, social responsibility and respect for human rights.
