Born in Vilnius in 1923. Graduated from the Faculty of Law and Economics at the University of Łódź in 1949. Obtained his post-doctoral degree twice: the Communist authorities revoked his first degree awarded in 1963. In 1970s, economic expert of the Znak Deputies Group; published articles in independent journals. Since 1980, he had been a consultant to the authorities of the "Solidarność” Trade Union. In the period of martial law he was detained for his opposition activity between December 1981 and April 1982. Consultant to the President of Poland Lech Wałęsa and the Prime Minister Jan Olszewski in the 1990s. Employee of the Institute of Economics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, lecturer at the Catholic University of Lublin and many other universities. In 1993-2002, faculty member of Lazarski University (originally Ryszard Łazarski Academy of Commerce and Law). Held the position of the University's Rector in 1994-1995. In 2006, awarded the Commander's Cross with Star of the Order of Polonia Restituta for exceptional contribution to the independence of the Republic of Poland and his activity fostering Poland's democratic transformation by the President of Poland Lech Kaczyński.
