Meeting with the Ambassador of Ireland Patrick Gerard Haughey at Lazarski University

A meeting with the Ambassador of Ireland - Patrick Gerard Haughey was held at Lazarski University. The event was organized by the student research group Foreign Affairs Club, operating under the supervision of Dr. Michał Kuź. The meeting provided an opportunity for a substantive discussion and an exchange of views on current challenges in international politics, as well as on contemporary processes shaping international relations.

During the meeting, the Ambassador presented Ireland’s perspective on the key challenges of contemporary international politics, emphasising the importance of European cooperation and the shared responsibility of European Union Member States in responding to rapidly evolving geopolitical and economic changes. In his remarks, he highlighted the need to strengthen European solidarity, develop a common strategic awareness, and maintain an ambitious approach to integration and international cooperation.

An important part of the discussion also focused on climate and environmental policy priorities, identified as one of the key areas requiring long-term, coordinated action at both the European and global levels. The importance of the consistent implementation of climate goals and Europe’s active role in shaping international initiatives in this field was strongly underlined.

In the section devoted to foreign policy and international security, participants addressed ongoing conflicts and the role of Europe in promoting stability and peaceful solutions to international disputes. The Ambassador also reaffirmed Ireland’s continued support for Ukraine, pointing to the importance of European solidarity in the face of contemporary threats to regional security.

A significant portion of the discussion was dedicated to transatlantic relations, including cooperation between the European Union and the United States and their influence on the shape of the contemporary international order. Issues of competitiveness and Europe’s strategic ambitions were also discussed, with emphasis placed on the need to strengthen the European Union’s economic, technological and institutional capacity amid growing global competition.

The meeting concluded with a lively discussion with participants, during which students actively asked questions and engaged in dialogue with the Ambassador, referring to current international developments and the future of European cooperation.

The event provided an opportunity for an inspiring exchange of views on the contemporary challenges of global politics and served as another example of the active work of the Foreign Affairs Club in supporting students’ interest in diplomacy and international relations.
