In Poland, as in other European countries, there is a continuous increase in the demand for health services in the field of hematooncology. This phenomenon is due not only to the increased incidence of cancers of the hematopoietic and lymphatic systems, which has been observed for several decades, but also to the dynamic recent development of diagnostic and treatment methods. These advances, on the one hand, make it possible to prolong the survival of patients and often a cure, but on the other hand, they generate ever-increasing treatment costs. In recent years, Poland has seen a breakthrough in securing patient access to modern treatment. Reimbursement decisions by the Minister of Health have provided clinicians with therapeutic tools to increase the effectiveness and safety of therapy in hematooncology, including chronic lymphocytic leukemia. No less dynamic advances in medicine bring new therapeutic possibilities, which implies the need to update therapeutic standards and, consequently, to further expand patient access to new therapies and optimize care models in accordance with the concept of Value Based Healthcare. The latest European guidelines (ESMO) indicate the new possibilities and opportunities that PBL patients are obtaining. The discussion will be canvassed by a study prepared by experts, which aims to provide an overview of the latest guidelines for diagnosis and treatment, as well as directions for changes in the model of care in anticipation of further growth in healthcare value in this area.
